Der Squarepusher oder – wie Bodenst\u00e4ndig 2000<\/a> es kongenial formulierten – der Klangkl\u00f6tzchenschieber<\/strong> war der Prototyp des Musiker in den 90igern. Tom Jenkinson aka Squarepusher<\/a> hat seinerzeit die Me\u00dflatte der Clicks n‘ Cuts per Minute mit seinem Jazzrock \/ Fusion \/ Ernest Borgnine<\/a>-Cut-Up um Meilen h\u00f6her gesetzt und als Mitglied des inoffiziellen Quartetts Aphex Twin<\/a>, Michael Paradinas<\/del> \u00b5-ziq<\/a> und Luke Vibert<\/a> die Stilrichtung Drill n‘ Bass erfunden. <\/p>\n

Auf seinem Deb\u00fctalbum Feed Me Weird Things<\/a> twistete er den Jazzrock und rei\u00dft mich damit heute noch vom Stuhl:<\/p>\n

Im Dictionary findet man unter Squarepusher die Definition ’someone who likes the ladies‘, was bei der Interpretation von Jenkinsons umfangreichen Werk erstmal wenig weiterhilft.<\/p>\n

In der einen Minute quetscht Squarepusher Miles Davis<\/a>-infizierten Jazz in einen Drum n‘ Bass Tracks, in der n\u00e4chsten verliert er sich in Reverb-Schleifen und l\u00e4sst die Melodie in einer dubbigen Fusion verschwinden. Auf dem Album Music Is Rotted One Note<\/a> \u00fcberraschte er dann 1998 mit live eingespielten Drums, Keyboards und Bass ohne jegliches Sequenzing: Bitches Brew on Acid<\/strong><\/p>\n

Just a Souvenir [Vinyl]<\/a>\"\" ist Squarepushers dreizehntes Album und basiert auf einer Vision, die der K\u00fcnstler auf einem Rockkonzert hatte:<\/p>\n

„This album started as a daydream about watching a crazy, beautiful rock band play an ultra-gig. At first, a giant fluorescent image of a coat hanger appeared at the back of the stage. A couple of seconds later a full size replica of the Camden Falcon backroom materialised around the glowing coat hanger. Upon the stage was a group composed of five musicians. They seemed to be of differing ages, some young, some old. I noticed that the drummer was an Eskimo.“<\/p>\n

„They played instruments either of their own design or conventional ones that were modified such that they could be used to generate a range of sounds not typically associated with a rock band.“<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

What to do after an experience of that order? As the room around me regained its familiar shape, I was left with an urgent sense of responsibility that I do honour to this vision of a remarkable ensemble. My memory of it was the only souvenir, and I feared its vulnerability with only a skull to protect it. I ventured forth to the studio shortly after the New Year. I emerged on July 15th. This is the result. I hope you enjoy it.“<\/p>\n

Das Album wird am 27. Oktober erscheinen und bildet eine wilde Mischung aus Trans Am<\/a>s Album Futureworld<\/a>, Experimental Rock, Future Jazz, den Drill n‘ Bass-Eskapaden fr\u00fcherer Platten und Vocoder-Quatsch.<\/p>\n

Die Clubtransmediale pr\u00e4sentiert am 26. November 2008 um 21 Uhr in der Volksb\u00fchne am Rosa-Luxemburg Platz<\/a> das erste und einzige Deutschlandkonzert von Squarepusher zum neuen Album. Im Zusammenspiel mit einem Schlagzeuger und aufw\u00e4ndiger Videoshow wird Tom Jenkinson alias Squarepusher mit einem spektakul\u00e4ren Auff\u00fchrungskonzept die gro\u00dfe B\u00fchne des Theaters in einen brodelnden Dancefloor verwandeln. <\/p>\n
