Diese ersch\u00fctternden S\u00e4tze gingen mir durch den Kopf, als ich heute die Ausstellung ‚Igor And The Rattlesnake – Solar Sound System<\/a>‚ verlie\u00df. Was Morley da feststellt, geht nicht nur blutjungen ‚The‘-Band-H\u00f6rern und Intro-Lesern an den Kragen, sondern auch all denjenigen die immer noch an einen NY-Mythos der sp\u00e4ten Siebziger Jahre – Blondie, Burroughs, Warhol, Patti Smith (just to name a few) – glauben. Das dies aber nicht zwangsl\u00e4ufig einen Sieg des Punk\/Hyperpop-Mashups bedeutet, habe ich heute durch das Solar Sound System<\/strong> gelernt.<\/p>\n

Igor And The Rattlesnake sind die K\u00fcnstler Nik Nowak<\/a> aus Berlin und Thomas Chapman<\/strong> aus Brooklyn und ihre Installation Solar Sound System<\/strong> ist noch bis zum 15. Mai in der Galerie Infernoesque<\/a> zu sehen.<\/p>\n

\nIm str\u00f6menden Regen erreiche ich das East Village von Berlin, die Heidestrasse, wo Galerien, Labels und Clubs eine Industriebrache mit kulturellem Mehrwert versehen. Im Erdgescho\u00df des Aufgangs II, im Vorraum der Installation, treffe ich den K\u00fcnstler Nik Nowak, im IR$$$$ MINIMART. Hier kann man in einer Asia-Gem\u00fcseladen-Atmosph\u00e4re alles von Klopapier \u00fcber Fake-Kokain, Tampons, Apfelsinen bis hin zur CD ‚Igor and the Rattlesnake Solar Sound System‘ erwerben.<\/p>\n

Letztere stellt den auditiven Teil der Installation dar, die mich im n\u00e4chsten Raum erwartet:<\/p>\n

Die Installation besteht aus drei miteinander vernetzten Teilen, der Mother Sculpture (Verst\u00e4rker und Subwoofer) und zwei Speaker-Satelliten die visuell m\u00e4nnlich und weiblich codiert sind. Durch Materialien, Farbgebung und collagiertem Fotomaterial vermittelt die Installation erstmal ein Gef\u00fchl von Blackness und Alienation. Dies ist m.E. eine Basisstimmung, die den Hauptteil der Installation transportiert: Die Musik.<\/p>\n

Produziert von Nik Nowak – der auch Beats und Tenor-Klacnisphniton spielt – ist die CD ‚Solar Sound System‘ das Werk von Niks Freundin Ronel Doual und Thomas Chapman als Vokalisten bzw. Lyricisten und dem Multi-Instrumentalisten Chris Gertges<\/a>. <\/p>\n

Schon in der Produktionsweise schwingt die Idee des Wild Bunch-Kollektivs aus Bristol mit, ein Referenzpunkt der auch in der schleppenden Dubbyness und Open-Mindness der Musik ankert (ich glaube sogar in den Drums des ersten St\u00fcckes ein Reminiszenz an Massive Attacks Blue Lines<\/strong> zu h\u00f6ren).<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Auf diesem Grundgroove werden Spoken Words, jazzig bis freejazzige Saxophon-Einlagen, Clicks-n-Cuts und wundersch\u00f6ne Conscious-Vocals collagiert. Alles in einer gutproduzierten Roughness, die einerseits DIY und andererseits hochprofessionell klingt. <\/p>\n

Das hier ist das Retro von etwas, was vielleicht in dieser Konsequenz nie war: Brooklyn-Multitude, Hip-Hop, Post-Punk, State-Of-The-Art Beatprogramming, Jazz und Politik. Vielleicht ist Retro zu Unrecht als Nabelschau und Nostalgie verschrien, denn, wenn wie hier, an l\u00e4ngst noch nicht ausformulierten Konzepten und Standards gearbeitet wird, macht das alles wieder Sinn…<\/p>\n
